Should I just keep stockpiling 223 and 223 rifles or switch over completely to 300 blackout 223 /blackout would be my under 200 yards gun. 308 is my 200+ yards gun -----

- I really like the way the 300 shoots and have killed many deer with the blackout over the last several years. Loading the 125 BT hunter from Nosler and it does great. For me it is a short range gun, I have my pick of about anything I want to shoot so after that I move to a bolt as the range goes form short 25-125 yards for 100-500 yards.
- You can shoot small 125g to 150g bullets for deer, the 168g Barnes for deer, elk and even moose. The 180g and above are there if you need them for moose and elk. When I first started hunting, I feared the recoil of the 30-06 but later discovered that it could be shot at the same recoil level of the .308 if desired.

This round was originally developed as a replacement for 7.62x39mm cartridges to use with AR-15 builds, while still allowing the AR-15 to have a magazine at normal capacity. Thus, the 300 Blackout round is a great pick for short barrel rifles.
- The 300 BLK actually is a cut-down version of the .223 Remington. The brass case itself is chopped, reshaped, and expanded at the mouth to accommodate a .308 bullet instead of a .224-inch diameter one. Even though the bullets are longer and heavier than their .223 Remington peers...
- Its a neutered 308 at that point. The point of 300 blk is to be heavy sub sonic suppressed bullets.. You're better off using an AK if you aren't going to shoot heavy subsonic suppressed bullets The point is trying to use an existing platform, in this case the LMT MRP chambered in 5.56, and give it some more knockdown for deer/boar.

- Like most American .30 caliber cartridges (the .30-30 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .300 Win Mag, etc.), the .300 Blackout uses .308″ bullets. However, depending on where the specific firearm and ammo in question where manufactured, the 7.62×39 typically uses .310″ or .311″ bullets.
- As with the 300 Blackout it's got Remington behind it, but I wish Remington would push it harder with more loadings vs. screwing around with this silly Blackout thing. The WSSM chamberings struck me as dumb as dirt out of bolt rifles, but now there are smiths out there chambering them in AR-15s.

Why bother, 30-30 is better, 308 is better again and if it's too much just load it down. Most 125g projectile are not ethically suitable for Deer.
